Of the four send options we have, Open Directly in Your Email is dependent on your browser, your computer settings, and email client. Find your email client/browser below and follow the steps to set up Open Directly in Your Email.
When choosing "Open Directly in Your Email" the email will open up in your normal email programs such as Outlook or Mac Mail and you can send from there. The ClientPoint will be marked as sent in View Status and Analytics.
Here are directions on setting up alternative email program as your default email client:
Windows 10 - Default to Outlook
- Go to Control Panel > Programs > Default Programs > Set Default Programs.
- Select Outlook from list under Programs and click on Set as default.
- Click Ok to Save.
For Google Chrome - Set Default Email Client to Gmail
- Open Gmail in Chrome and click on the Protocol Handler icon (two overlapping diamonds) in your browser's address bar.
- You'll be prompt to "Allow Gmail to open all email links?".
- Select "Use Gmail".
- Click Done to save and you are all set.
If you do not see the Protocol Handler icon:
- Go to the Chrome menu icon (top-right 3 dots and choose Settings).
- Click Show Advanced Settings button at the bottom of the screen.
- Under Privacy and Security, click on Content Settings.
- In the pop-up window, scroll down and select Handlers.
- Choose Gmail from the mailto dropdown.
- Click Done to save and you are all set.
For Google Chrome - Set Default Email Client to Outlook
- In Chrome, navigate to the settings. Click on the three dots in the upper-right corner of the screen, to the right of the menu bar, and then select "Settings." Or, just type chrome://settings/ into the address bar and hit enter.
- Select "Handlers" in "Site Settings." Click on Privacy and Security, and then select "Site Settings." Under "Permissions, click on "Additional Permissions" and then click on "Protocol Handlers." Or, just go directly to chrome://settings/handlers in your address bar.
- Allow Chrome to ask for default handlers. Just slide the toggle switch to the on position. If this setting is already turned on, go with the default IT fix and turn it off and then on again. That should prompt Chrome to ask when you navigate to a site or click an email link you'd like to set your default handler. This can be especially handy if you've actually set the incorrect default.
- Click on an email address. This should prompt Chrome to check your system defaults and use whichever is defined in your system settings. If you have followed the steps above to update the default mail settings on your computer, this should open in Outlook.
