Use tags to customize signer fields in your Word document (.docx) or PDF. Each tag is contained between opening and closing square brackets [ ].
🎨 Pro Tip: Exact Placement (The Text Box Method)
If you are worried about tags pushing your text to the next page or messing up your signature lines, use a Floating Text Box. This allows you to place your signature exactly where you want it without affecting the rest of the document.
Insert a Text Box: Go to Insert > Text Box and draw it right over your signature line.
-
Remove the Border & Background: Right-click the box, go to Format Shape, and set:
Fill: No Fill
Line/Outline: No Line
Position It: Set the Wrap Text option to "In Front of Text." Now you can drag this box precisely onto your signature line.
Type Your Tag: Type your code (e.g.,
[s:a:r]) inside this invisible box.
Tag Format
Each tag is made up of three arguments, first argument, second argument and third argument. Here is an example of a possible tag you could use:
[ s:a:r ]FIRST ARGUMENT
This argument describes the type of field this tag will be.
- s = signature
- c = check box
- i = initials field
- t = text field
- d = date picker
SECOND ARGUMENT
This argument designates to whom the field is assigned using A through Z in alphabetical order to correspond to the signer.
- a = first document signer
- b = second document signer
- c = third document signer
- etc...
THIRD ARGUMENT
This argument designates the field as either required or optional. Note that signatures are always required and cannot be set as optional.
- o = optional
- r = required
⚠️ Critical Styling Notes
Make it Invisible: Once your tags are in place, change the font color to white (or match your document’s background). This ensures the bracketed code disappears, leaving only the clean signature on the final document.
Control the Size: To give the signer more room, simply increase the font size of the tag or add spaces inside the brackets like this:
[ s:a:r ].Ignore the Gaps: The system automatically ignores spaces or underscores inside the brackets.
Once your tags are added
Final Steps: Uploading to ClientPoint
Upload: Go to your ClientPoint, click "Add to ClientPoint," and select "Upload a Document."
Automatic Recognition: ClientPoint will scan the file, detect your tags, and automatically enable ClientPoint Sign.
Confirm: You will be taken directly to the signing interface to confirm all fields are placed perfectly.
